Acupuncture in London, EC2: back pain, fertility, insomnia

We use acupuncture, herbal medicine and Chinese medicine to address back pain, fertility problems and a wide variety of other conditions.

What happens when you come to the clinic?

An in-depth consultation takes place that investigates your current symptoms together with your more general physical and emotional condition. We will take your pulse at both wrists and look at your tongue. From this information we can form a diagnosis and plan of action.

Acupuncture

Sessions generally involve acupuncture, whereby ultrafine needles are inserted at special locations around the body. The acupuncture points are not always close to the part of the body where you experience a problem, for example, if you suffer from headaches, needles may be inserted in your arms or legs.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Depending on your condition, a course of individually tailored herbal capsules may be prescribed. These are made from the finest quality, concentrated herbal powders. Herbal prescriptions are normally available for collection or delivery within 24 hours of the consultation.

Auricular acupressure

For some conditions, auricular acupressure may be employed. This involves stimulating special locations on the ears with very small herb-impregnated sticking plasters. The plasters are left in place for three or four days and can be re-stimulated by patients using a gentle squeezing action. Auricular acupressure is particularly useful in reducing cigarette or food cravings and is often used in stop smoking or weight loss programmes.

Cupping

Cupping involves attaching small glass cups to the skin by means of vacuum pressure. The cups are normally left in place for a few minutes and may help to clear congestion within the body. Cupping is not painful but can leave slightly red, circular patches on the skin. These patches normally disappear after two or three days.

Neuromuscular taping (kinesiotaping)

This technique is a very useful adjunctive therapy, especially for muscular complaints. It involves the taping of muscles with specially elasticated tape that helps facilitate muscular & joint decompression, clearing stagnation and, therefore, speeding recovery in a number of musculoskeletal conditions.

Tuina (Chinese medicinal massage)

For some conditions, tuina (roughly pronounced “tway-nah”) may be employed. Tuina shares origins and similarities with Japanese shiatsu massage, but is much less known about in the West. This form of massage is often useful when looking at muscular conditions.

Electro-acupuncture

This therapy is often used with tendon and muscle problems. It involves the passing of tiny electrical pulses along inserted acupuncture needles. The gentle electrical stimulation penetrates the surrounding tissue and helps clear blockages and pain.
